Please enjoy our interview as we get to know Chamia Rochaee.
1. Can you briefly walk us through your story? How did you get started and what made you choose to become an influencer?
I've always been plus size, for as long as I remember. I remember being 10 years old shopping for school pants and having to wear boy's “Husky” navy blue pants for my navy blue and yellow school uniform. I was so embarrassed and self-conscious, walking around in husky boys' baggy pants. From that point on I knew I wanted to find clothes that not only look good but fit my body and personal style, something I could feel confident in.
I realized I wasn't the only young black girl in my area dealing with this. Heck! Almost all of my friends and family are plus sized. And that realization sparked my interest and journey to discovering great brands that will make my community and I feel as beautiful as we are!
2. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some struggles you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn't been a smooth road. It's easy to say you love yourself and the way you look online but embodying body positivity on a daily basis is hard, especially living in a society that constantly tells you that your body and community aren't accepted. There are days when I'm at the top of the world, ready to conquer the world in my body. I love those days. Then, there are days when I feel like the little 10-year-old girl wearing the boys “Husky” navy blue pants. Miserable. Those days give me even more motivation to create content to uplift women who are experiencing the same feelings.
3. We’d love to learn more about your work. What are you known for? What are you most proud of?
I'm not sure what I'm known for just yet, haha! But I am most proud of the growth of my audience, I never imagined that I would have over 50,000 people interested in my life and my opinions. I truly believe that my authenticity, personality, and passion for fashion sets me apart from others.
4. Who are the biggest influences in your career?
My biggest influence is Tabria Majors. The work she does is absolutely amazing. I hope to meet or work with her in the future.
6. What are some of your favorite places to find plus size clothing?
