“If I can inspire even one person with my videos, then I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose."

Please enjoy our interview as we get to know Nahiely Heredia.

1. Can you briefly walk us through your story? How did you get started and what made you choose to become an influencer?

Growing up I struggled a lot with my body and feeling beautiful. My beautiful cousins were both 0s and 00s while I was a size 14. In the early 2000s being a size 14 was not considered beautiful. It really made me wish I looked like they did. I never felt like I had good style because my friends were petite, wearing brands like Abercrombie and Hollister. We could only afford 2ndhand clothes from yard sales and Goodwill. Since style was never my thing, I started doing my makeup more and loved it. The first time I ever put on fake lashes was in May 2015 and it completely changed my makeup game. I tried making YouTube videos, and while I had so much fun, I was always too shy to film when other people were around and stopped filming. It was always a big regret that I didn’t continue pursuing YouTube / social media. I started creating TikTok videos in December 2020 but didn’t niche down to curvy fashion/beauty until July 2022. It’s been a whirlwind of change and it has been a beautiful journey so far. I decided I owed it to myself to create content again, and this time I don’t plan to slow down or stop. I love connecting with other women and building a community. I am inspired by helping others feel confident in their skin because I don’t want another size 14+ little girl feeling ugly in a world that tells us our bodies don’t belong. If I can inspire even one person with my videos, then I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose.

2. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some struggles you’ve faced along the way?

It definitely hasn’t been easy. I’m not trying to play the victim here, but there was a time when I felt very isolated in my early 20s. I felt like no one around me liked me and that everything I was doing was going wrong. I felt like I wasn’t true to myself and people saw right through that, but I didn’t know how to get out of it. It was a very humbling experience and I learned a lot about myself and the people I like to surround myself with. A few years later I had my daughter I struggled a lot with PPD/PPA. I had never dealt with mental health issues like this and it was a learning curve for the first year after my daughter was born.

3. We’d love to learn more about your work. What are you known for? What are you most proud of?

On TikTok, I'd say I’m most known for my curvy girl fashion finds and shapewear try-ons. I first went viral comparing Amazon shapewear vs. Skims, and I found a true dupe! Since then, I have spent a lot of time scoping out Amazon fashion because it is so hard for us curvy girls to just walk into a store and find cute clothes. Right now, I feel really proud of the community I’m building. When people tell me they’re stepping out of their comfort zone to wear clothes they wouldn’t normally wear, because of my videos, it’s the most rewarding feeling. I read every single comment and try to reply to as many as I can. It feels like I’m making an impact in a world that could be so cruel. I just feel so accomplished celebrating

curvy bodies. I’m a millennial working a 9-5, I’m a mom, Latina, curvy creator, wife, and dog owner. I feel like I can genuinely connect to so many different audiences and I am thankful to be able to do so.

4. Who are the biggest influences in your career?

Some of my biggest influences are Kristal Heredia, Maddie Touma, and Ashley Lopez. They are the first people I saw with body types like mine wearing clothes I always wished I could wear. Kristal and I actually share the same last name and I remember seeing her and thinking “WOAH! If a "Heredia" like her can make it, then so can I.”

5. Who are some of your fashion inspirations?

I am a simple girl when it comes to style. As I mentioned before I never felt like I was great at style so I like outfits that keep things simple! I’m inspired by Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, and Karen Gonzalez (Sarahi). I like those styles and styling them onto a curvy body.

6. What are some of your favorite places to find plus size clothing?

On a more affordable scale, I love Amazon and Shein. My absolute favorite is actually going to thrift stores! When I like to splurge on some more quality pieces I’ve found a liking to Banana Republic and Nordstrom. I never thought I’d shop at either store but have found some recent luck there with some great items.

7. Do you have any piece of advice that can help someone start doing what you do?

If you want it, start doing it, stop watching from the background while other people follow their dreams. Start taking action to follow your own. I know that it can feel awkward and hard to get started, but I promise you it’s even harder to know you’re not reaching your own full potential.

8. How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?

To work with me or collaborate email is usually best! if you want to support me reposting or sharing my content to reach your audience is so appreciated. Honestly even just watching it or giving it a like means the world!

9. Is there anything else you would like us to know?

I just want everyone to know how thankful I am for their support. Moments like this truly feel so surreal and I am reminded just how blessed I am. I promise promise PROMISE you, if you want to do this you can, you just need to start!
